An information seminar on green management in cities within our projects COMMA, CoMGI, and Happy Rain was held in Mahilyow on March 23, 2016. Experts from EKAPRAEKT, IWO, Green Network, National Academy of Sciences, and the administration of Jelgava shared their experiences in involving the public in municipal management. The seminar was attended by representatives of various regions of Belarus, members of municipal administrations, enterprises, non-governmental organizations, business representatives and other stakeholders.

Interactive map of century-old trees

We have completed the first version of an interactive map of century-old trees for the central part of Mahilyow. The people who have selflessly devoted their time to measuring these trees are Leanid Platonenka, Natallia Hancharova, Barys Maciunin, Alena Asmakouskaja, Iryna Usava, Aleh Dziachkou, and Hanna Skryhan. The pictures were taken by Alena Asmakouskaja, Viktar Kireyeu, and Iryna Vozniachuk. This is still not the final version of the map. In the comments section you are welcome to leave the coordinates, measurements, and pictures of the missing trees that are more than 60 centimeters in diameter.

Co-Management of Green Infrastructure project is registered!

We have successfully completed the registration procedure for our project on co-management of green infrastructure (CoMGI)! The project aims to find technical and institutional instruments for the preservation of existing and the creation of new green infrastructure in Belarusian cities. The project is being implemented within the Small Grants Program of the US Embassy. We are looking forward to all the exciting project events!

Resolution of the National Academy of Sciences on nature monuments

We have received the resolution of the Institute of Experimental Botany of the National Academy of Sciences on the suggestion of EKAPRAEKT, ENDO, and Mahilyow Francysk Skaryna Society to provide a protection status to several natural sites in the city. In the resolution, scientists recommend to give a local monument of nature status to the oak and ash trees of the Dormition Cemetery. For the other sites the resolution is much less comforting: elm ecosystems of Padnikollie are irreversibly broken, and the balsam poplar stands of Gorky Park do not meet the age requirements.
